I rode side along in the cab

of that trusted dump truck

for a long haulfull of miles,

enough to know exactly why

the radials were wearing to wire.

I knew the growing story

behind that windshield crack

and the deeper dents in the bed

(even an owner forgives to forget

the cause of minor body scrapes).

I greeted the warning backup beep

wide with clearance directing arms

the day it drove up to unrubbish

a payload of front stoop manure

that foulmarked up to step three.

I accepted all the ugly, raw, and unwanted,

earthly working it into garden lanes

yielding bushels of beautiful leafy greens

brim packed with essentials and vitamins

positivity charged in healthy reassurance.

But when that so familiar ride

came rumbling with more deliveries,

rotten refuse, ready to unburden,

out came detouring construction cones

along with a permanent, denying barricade.
