Please take a stand against assisted suicide as it is wrong on every level.
Doctors are in the business of saving lives, not destroying lives. They swore an oath to do everything within their power and with the means available to them to save lives. They did not take an oath to help a person to commit suicide; thereby committing murder.
If you are so intent on killing your mother or father or husband or wife or son or daughter or brother or sister, then do so yourself – be brave enough to take on the responsibility for it yourself and don’t force another person to do it…..oh no, WAIT, that would be MURDER wouldn’t it? And you would be charged with the CRIME of MURDER – and no, I am by no means suggesting anyone go out and commit murder!
If it is murder for one person to do it but is not murder for another person to do it, isn’t murder MURDER no matter which way you slice it? Why is there such a double standard?
This is a slippery slope especially for those who have no one to speak for them if they are unable to do so. People confined to psychiatric wards, elderly patients with no families, the homeless, etc... once the ball starts rolling that it is ok to kill people then our society has sunk to a tremendous low.
It was not so long ago that doctors and nurses were charged with murder when they willingly killed a patient under their care. It is still murder whether or not it is legally sanctioned by the government.
It was not so long ago too that the government gave permission to sterilize people who were not considered "normal" as well and took away their rights to procreate. The legal decisions taken then turned out to be so wrong and monstrous as is the legal decision today to allow for assisted suicide.
I also question what about the doctors who refuse to do so on moral and ethical grounds? Are they then to forsake their right to not commit murder and be forced to help someone commit suicide?
There is already a substantial problem with suicide by cop in this day and age, suicide by doctor is taking things to the extreme and guarantees that no one is safe under the care of doctors once we begin to travel this path.
Eventually it will become second nature to kill people without thinking things through and with a signature on a slip of paper, the deed is done.
People argue that they get a veterinarian to kill their pets when they are old and sick as an argument for assisted-suicide, but the last time I checked, a human being in no way looked like a cat or dog or whichever domestic animal you call a pet.
This is a dangerous road society travels when they can justify murder by any means necessary.
