Fire Dragon

A poem about a beautiful dragon

Fire Dragon

Curious lives of Dragons
pluck at my scales to keep them preened sharp and thin
bleed them to the quick to keep each one pure from the sin of men
a way to show everyone a kind love from with in

I return to the nothing
that place meant for me
there in the black
the place that keeps me safe
and the world from knowing a certain soul's heart
a face behind a mask only a rider could love

underneath these precious scales of mine
I live alone now
inside myself
the cave of wonder that is my mind
a place only a fire dragon can thrive
that place called mine
warm sitting upon that pile of guarded treasure
named myself

fire dragon
