I’m not going to try to romanticize this. It’d been 10 months, so yeah, his smells were poetry. Scandalous and dirty. His coming was lust born from scandal. His, not mine.

I’m not going to try to romanticize this. It’d been 10 months, so yeah, his smells were poetry. Scandalous and dirty. His coming was lust born from scandal. His, not mine.

Been doing my head in to dissect this relationship, but it’s simple. We’re not in love. Love would never hide from roommates or girlfriends.

“Does your girlfriend know you’re here?”

“No,” he stared at the ceiling reading the writing unseen. I lay beside him, a fuzzy outline in his peripheral vision blinking rapidly, fidgeting, staying fuzzy because that’s what he made me.

“What would she say if she did?”

“I don’t know. It’s not so black and white,” he said, sounding rather abrupt. “We’re all just trying to figure it out.”

“Do you think we’ll regret this?”

He gave the question careful thought, “I’d regret never doing it. I’m glad we did it.”

I paused to reflect on his truth, accepted it, and decided it would be mine as well. Safer that way. “Me too,” I replied. “Does this mean that my karma is tainted because I know you have a girlfriend?”

He turned his head towards me considering in that small moment I was a person effected in this too, “I’ve taken out insurance at Karma LLC, you should look into it. It protects you from numerous transgressions so that your soul can be free.”

“Karma, LLC,” I repeated. The words came out dry.

“Karma Police. And… I can’t remember any of the other lyrics. Oh, this is what you’ll get.”

When you mess with love,” I said. Seemed fitting. Seemed right.

“I think it’s, when you mess with us,” he corrected.

“Oh.”

“Like us, the karma police.”

“Oh, yeah. That makes sense.”

“Yeah.”

Arid. Dry. Empty. This is what we are. I feel the gap between us grow wider and wider though I’m still holding to his body. There are no more words. No more emotions. Nothing more to do here. Reality bites.

“Do you want to make out some more?” he asked.

“Yeah,” I said.

And so we did.
