There have been many professions I've tried over the years, but none seemed to fit as well as writing. Being an intractable introvert, writing allows me the time to research, read, and spend hours creating interesting worlds all by myself. I still teach the odd theology class now and then, usually when asked by a former pupil, but I prefer to talk about writing my characters from my theological world-view. It's hard to be a godly person these days, so I like to show in my stories how a person can be basically a good person struggling with the problems of life, but become better under the pressure cooker of a crisis by doing the hard thing. With all my children grown, I turned our dining room table into a desk--with the leaves attached. Instead of sumptuous meals for the kids, I serve up murder on an icy noir dish, psychological terror on a platter, and slather that slice with lots of suspense, including art--my other favourite past-time. I'm with a small press, GWL Publishing in the UK, and it's been a wonderful relationship for these past two years. I'm looking forward to publishing a Gothic thriller and a science fiction story in the near future, including another in my Charlemagne and McManus Shadow series.
