I was born as Rochelle de Beer on the 15th of May 1992 in Klerksdorp, South Africa. I surround myself with people, who have always supported me in everything I do and keep me motivated. I hated school — like most people — since I found it extremely restricting, especially when it came to my writing freedom...and I'm just not a big fan of being made fun of because I'm different.
Since a very young age, I wrote down anything that came to my mind, imagining that one day they would mean something more. (Nothing erotic at that stage — I'm not completely weird...I think?) When I was about sixteen, I began taking the ideas more seriously and wrote complete storylines and plotting scenarios. (I began thinking of the erotic things, but didn't write about it...yet) Until late 2013, at the age of 21, I finally decided to explore the possibilities of self publishing. With numerous books written or halfway there, I only had to check facts, get beta readers, find an editor, etc.
I found Smashwords and finally got the chance to share my fantasies. I have always had a great fondness of writing and found it to be a truly excellent way of putting my emotions down on paper, creating new worlds and just escaping reality. As the only child, I was always lonely, but my writing gave me a chance to step into the worlds I created for myself. (I'm a bit weird like that, but I write things I would like to read.)
I prefer writing about things that might seem strange or that seem to be unlikely. I don't write to make the reader feel excluded or to please anyone. I write my stories with realism, keeping the reader experiencing what the story entailed, but I make sure that the genuine issues aren't overlooked — especially with my historical books. When writing or reading I think it is important that the reader must always relate to the characters and that is what I intend to do.
I also find extreme emotional conflicts bring more truth to a story. Even when the things written might not have been experienced by the author, the idea of what a person would do in the situations are an important connection between reader and writer. And that is what I try to capture with the things I write. I've been accused of being too forward with my work, but I feel factuality and fiction should be combined. A book that tells a story where it makes you feel uncomfortable with the truth is the best kind of book in my world. While escapism must be achieved, perspective needs to be kept, even when writing a historical, fantasy, paranormal, etc.
On the more personal side, I am a lover of all animals, big and small, creepy and cute. I have a great fear of spiders, but I am trying my best to conquer it. My two favourite companions in this world are my two sisters; Chloé and Zoey. An albino German Shepherd and a white Labrador, these two are my entire world and were the inspirations for Selina and Netta in the Sparks and Sparrows duology. I have a degree in BSc. Environmental and Biological Sciences, but it wasn't as tree hugger as I had hoped, so luckily I stopped being a closet writer in 2014 and now I am living my dream.
Please, don't be shy to ask me whatever you want, cuss me or let's just start a discussion on any of my social network links, store discussion of a specific book or email me.
