I will compel you, as a reader, to feel, to envision, to embrace the moment. I may offend your philosophies. I may question your beliefs. I may take you to places you do not want to go. I will assure you that life is not fair. I will demand that you hold onto your dreams; for, dreams do come true.
I was born a teller of stories. Practical life, career, house, and family, left little time to pursue that avocation, I so foolishly imagined for five decades. I retired and found a new world. Today I play. Poetry is my passion. I write short stories, articles, journals, and songs, fiction, opinion, or fact. I respect the classics; can write in any style, and do. I have something in print that mimics Petrarch to 'the last poets'. I have honed my craft. Now, my art is effortless, unlike my punctuation. I am too old and indifferent to make the effort to market, but my ego still wants promotion. I want my work to live on. I hate war and love women. My health is deteriorating; I lose a daily battle with pain and malfunctioning motor skills. I saw Rome and Mayan temples last year. I learned guitar and watched my granddaughter learn to walk and talk in the last two. I am surrounded by music and flowers, as the country I love is aging gracelessly. Give me the wild places. Give me those who love peace. Give me liberty.
My favorite poet and songwriter is Dylan; my favorite author, Vonnegut. I enjoy the company of other artists, participate in a dynamic spoken word collective called Transpoetic Playground, the southern branch of the Illinois State Poetry Society, local open mic's and festivals, poker tournaments, and a Facebook site called 'Poet's Post' from which I have edited and published four anthologies. I've been included in at last count ten anthologies and have printed two books of short stories, 'WRITTEN PICTURES'2010 and 'FIELD TRIPS TO REALITY'2014 and a poetic novel since 2010, available on Amazon.com.books. Did I mention I fell in love in 1964, lost her in 1966, and she found me in 2009? If you believe in true love, buy 'Winter Soup'.
