Thank you for writing this and telling your very important story! I have very mixed emotions about holistic methods for cancer treatment. My mother died of breast cancer almost 20 years ago and refused to go the traditional route until the very end. She traveled to the Philippines and to Mexico to seek out a natural cure.  By the time she agreed to removing the cancerous lump, the cancer had spread to the rest of her body. Perhaps if she would have gone the traditional route from the beginning, she would be alive? Who knows? If she would have gone the traditional route, she would have definitely sacrificed her own beliefs in what she felt was right for her and her body.

For some, the holistic route is a cure, but for most I think it best as a form of prevention or support for traditional methods. If you have cancer or other genetic illnesses in your family, you should probably: have a regular relaxation practice, drink plenty of alkaline water, eat whole foods, receive acupuncture and chiropractic care regularly, be active daily, avoid chronic stress, and laugh a lot! As a way to support traditional methods, certain supplements and lifestyle changes could make the side effects easier.

I am not a medical professional and have not read research articles on treatments that are effective. I am a mental health professional and know that research is not the golden ticket for treatment and cure.  Many natural remedies and non-traditional preventative methods never get researched because there is no funding and too much skepticism. And then there are the lovely pharmaceutical companies that would prefer to make a profit over all else...but now I am digressing.

I guess my advice is that we should all treat our bodies like a sacred place of worship. Read about taking care of your body and your family's bodies. I love the advice of giving families time to process a diagnosis. Connect with other families via support groups online and learn about what they are doing to heal and cope. Thank you again for posting this!!
