I have spent about 25 years working on gardens as a designer and hands-on practitioner. I am interested in gardens as an expression of culture. Is there such a thing as uniquely American garden style? What is it? How is it influence by the ways American's historically relate to land and landscape? Do American's think of gardens in the context of the"natural world" or as distinctly part of the a separate "built environment." Americans are captivated by cuisine, fashion, fine art and architecture but not by gardens. Why? I would like to draw attention to the best in American gardens past and present.
