I have a BA (Library & Information Science – specialising in services for children), Graduate Diploma (Early Childhood), Graduate Certificate (Museum Studies), Certificate IV (Training & Assessment), Australian Writer’s Centre (Writing Picture Books), Writer’s Bureau (Writing for Children).
I have acted as a Children’s Librarian for over 20 years, sharing stories with babies, Toddlers and mixed groups of 0-5 years. I have also presented storytimes and reading programs to both large ( up to 150 ) and small groups of children including those with special needs (English as a second language, autism, behavioural issues and disabilities). I have worked in professional long day care centres creating specifically designed language and literacy plans for children with a range of needs and as a Family Day Care provider, creating individual leisure and educational programs for children 0-5 years. I addition, I have assisted primary aged children with reading recovery. I have created and presented active age/stage related programs for Library, Museum and Art Gallery settings aimed at children between 3-5 years plus specialised tours of Library, Museum and Art Gallery spaces for primary aged children. I have provided object driven story opportunities through social history cases aimed at encouraging children to weave their own tales based on a known or unfamiliar object supporting language growth, imagination and confidence in young children.
