Hunter Marks was born and grew up in the North East of England, and attended both the University of Newcastle upon tyne and Northumbria University, where he graduated with an MA in Social Science, concentrating on film as a form of resistance to gender oppression, in particular in the films and popular biography of Judy Garland. In his personal life, Marks's greatest relationships were with alcohol, anonymous sex and depression; three abusive lovers from whom he has since separated. He lives alone.
