I am an aspiring writer exploring the Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror genres. I just LOVE a good, twisted story that sends chills down your spine, don't you? That is my ultimate goal in my writing: to invoke an insatiable appetite for the weird, unknown, and extraordinary.
My inspiration comes from Ray Bradbury (THE MARTIAN CHRONICLES), C. S. Lewis (THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA), Edgar Allen Poe (THE TELL TALE HEART), and J. R. R. Tolkien (THE LORD OF THE RINGS). These books and collected short stories have captured my mind since childhood and never let go. I've studied them, broken them down piece by piece, and found that it wasn't always how proper and perfect the writing was that made them so special. In fact, I can find hundreds of ways in which they BROKE the 'rules' of writing! What had I been taught all these years?! So I stopped trying to follow all the rules that weigh me down when I write and focused on the FEELING. That's what inspires me and what leaves me hungry for more from these amazing authors. The FEELING.
I consider myself a huge nerd for the popular fandoms including (but not limited to) Supernatural, Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, and Sherlock. These, like the authors before, left me feeling more than was on the script they were reading from because of the richness of the characters themselves! I want to FEEL my characters, FEEL my metaphors, analogies, and wordplay, FEEL my writing...and I want my readers to FEEL it, too.
I will be posting samples of some of my work as time goes on. Please feel free to comment as long as you're not being a total jerk or I will write you into a horror story........I'm serious. Go ahead and give me inspiration through anger. I dare you.
I do not have a PHD, M.A., or B.A. The best education from an instructor I've ever received was in High School. I attempted to achieve my Bachelor's degree earlier in my life, but discovered that all of my professors were full of crap (as were the textbooks they published themselves), and I was PAYING THEM to give it to me. So, I switched to more affordable online studies at a local community college and then a different online University (Western Governor's University), which only offered a teaching certificate and degree.
Through this independent form of education, I realized I could learn so much more from my own research than I ever could in those courses. I completed all the necessary requirements at WGU until I reached the core requirements for certification, where I stopped to pursue my own interests.
I am currently researching the many areas of Fiction Writing to complete the lacking education that the Universities couldn't give me. This world is full of knowledge that I intend to discover over the years. My education will never end and I may never hold a diploma in my hand, but OH! the adventures I will have!
I read. I explore. I write. I have the best adventures.
