SAZI

In the small village of Mwana, about fifteen miles north of the Ardhi Anasa Palace, people are being abducted, and families are terrified to be outside in the night. A little bit over a week has passed since Icya escaped from the house of Congion.  In search of finding Icya the menacing bat-winged  creature, Popobawa within a weeks time has quickly ravaged the small community and for one family in particular, (the Chokowe’s), life has become one horrific nightmare after another.

Meanwhile , on the other side of the village, Icya is well rested but feeling responsible for the terrible things this creature has done while looking for her, so she decides to leave her slightly older cousin Shashon’s house and go try and talk to Saka.  Assuring her cousin and her children that the danger would soon be over , Icya bought a horse, loaded up her belongings, said her goodbyes and swiftly headed out for Nakuru Village, where she could rent a room and be closer to the palace.

Two nights ago Bonte, the oldest son of the Chokowe family being eighteen years old, went to the vegetable market to get some seed to plant and a couple of things for the household.  There was about two full hours of brilliant sunlight left, and the market was only a ten minute walk.  Bonte’s mother Sazi insisted that he wait for his father, Gelmy, to return from work.  He actually worked at the meat market about twenty feet from the same vegetable market that Bonte was going to ,but Bonte had ulterior motives.  He wanted to go see his lady friend that lived about fifteen minutes past the markets.  So instead of coming straight home after he left the market he went to go see her.  After he got there he lost track of time, it was getting dark before he noticed.  When he started to leave, the parents of his lady friend asked him to stay because of the of the people that had been reported missing in the last week.  He said he rather get home because his parents would be worried and probably go out in of him.

He left out and when he did not return home that night his parents were frantically worried, Gelmy quickly went to go see if he could find him. He went by the lady friend's house and they told him that his son had left a long time ago and they had asked him to stay.  Gelmy left the lady friend's house to continue the search for his son, he stayed out all night until the sun came up. When he got home he kissed his wife and left out again but his time he formed a search party of about twenty men, horses and bloodhounds.  They looked all day until the sun went down, then all the other men went home to their families but Gelmy stayed out looking for Bonte.  Sazi, his wife, Trecie and Rishi , his other two children waited at home patiently for Bonte and Gelmy to return that night but neither of them ever did.

The next morning Sazi went to go talk to the village elders about her husband and son to see if they would form another search party.  The elders decided to do what she asked and they looked all day until nightfall but had no luck.  They told her they would search again tomorrow and they did.  That day about five hours into the search they found Gelmy dead deep in the forest and brought his body back to the now widowed Sazi.  Her and the children were devastated by his death, but she thought there was still hope for her beloved son Bonte.  She begged the elders to go out and look one more day for Bonte but the elders told her that her son was most likely dead and they had to use their resources to search for the women that went missing last night. She went around asking men to help her look for her son but all the men said the exact same words that the elders had said so she decided to wait till the next morning and her and the kids would go looking themselves.

The next morning she got up, got the children ready, put Rishi, her youngest child, in a wrap on her back and tied a small rope from her hand to the hand of Trecie the eight year old daughter.  Before they left to search for Bonte, Sazi decided to go and feed the animals in the barn because they would be gone all day.  When she open the door of the barn she noticed that the animals were uneasy and even a little frightened. She looked around but didn't see anything unusual, but she could smell a strange scent mixed in with the usual animal smell. She looked around a little more and then cautiously walked over to a bend that they kept the chicken feed in, grabbed a scoop and bent down to scoop some feed up.  The bend was close to a large pile of hay.  She scooped the feed and tossed some to the chickens.  Then as she attempted to scoop a second time, a hand grabbed her from out of the pile of hay.  She screamed as it slung her and her children to the ground.  A shirtless Cotto with ripped bloody pants emerged from the large pile of hay.  He stood over them with an evil murderous look in his eyes and a contentful smile on his face.  Now both of the children are frightened and screaming but Sazi has suddenly calmed down.  The pheromones have now saturated her lungs and she is almost completely  helpless to the toxins circulating through her blood and body, but Sazi somehow gets up grabs Trecie and runs out of the barn into the house.  Cotto just stood there and watched them until they went into the house and he walked to the barn door and closed it.

Now in the house Sazi and the children are sitting at a table in their small kitchen.  Trecie is still crying and asking her mother questions but Sazi is not saying anything.  She is just sitting in the chair holding Rishi and stareing toward the barn, occasionally looking at Trecie and sweating profusely.  Eventually after an hour had gone by both the children had gone to sleep.  Sazi got up to put the kids in their bed, and walk to the window adjacent to the barn.  She slowly pulled the curtain back with the arm that Cotto had grabbed her by and peeked out, only to see that the barn door was  wide open and Cotto staring back at her.  His scent is still on her arm and the affects of the toxin from his touch has reignited something deep within her.  She quickly closed the curtain, walked back to her chair and sat down breathing heavily. Sitting there with her arms folded looking up at the ceiling with tears in her eyes, she glances down at her arm, pulls it up to her nose, closes her eyes, and takes a long deep breath.  Her hand then continues up to her head, she strokes her hair ,grabs it firmly , and then she hops up goes to the kids room, opens the door, glances at them for a minute, closes the door, locks it, turns around with her bottom lip trembling  and dashes out the house towards the barn.  She runs fast as she can, leaps onto the Cotto, wraps her arms and legs around him, Cotto smiles and shuts the door behind them.

Hours pass by and it’s about twenty minutes before sun down.  Trecie wakes up and calls for her mother but Sazi is still in the barn.  She gets up looks at her little brother, he’s still sound asleep so she goes in the kitchen where she last saw he mother.  She looks around the house and calls out for her again but she gets no answer.  Now scared and confused she grabs the wrap that her mother uses to carry Rishi, goes to the room, and with all her strength secures him on her back.  Cautiously she walks to the window and peeps out hoping her mother would come any minute, but she doesn’t, so Trecie decides to go outside and look for her.  Trecie, very slowly opens the front door and looks out toward the barn.  Now the sun has gone down and nightfall has cast it’s dark shadow across the land.

In the whole village Trecie is the only soul who dare to step out into the darkness.  First she goes around the back of the house to see if maybe her mother was hanging clothes on the line or pulling them off the line but she wasn't there.  Now her only choice was to check the barn, but as she walked towards the barn she could her a terrifying noise that sounded  something like a woman, a man, and a big grizzly bear screaming in excruciating agony, while being beaten in the throat with a large wooden stick.  The beating sound started out slow but got faster and faster and faster until it turned into a rumbling sound along with the screaming.

Inside the barn a horrific transformation was taking place.  Cotto was floating in mid air over  Sazi’s badly beaten and torn body.  His head had tripled in size and his mouth was ripped from ear to ear filling up with long skinny razor sharp teeth.  The air around him was twisting and twirling around his newly deformed body like a tornado.  The back of his neck was stretching and pulling the skin on his back skin ripping a hole in it. Then, his arms started to retract back into his arm sockets and from the hole in his back, came some larger arms attached to some enormous wings. While the wings were forming everything got completely silent until he raised both of them high in the air and in one big flap, Booooom!  In a thunderous and powerful blast of wind and light, the front of the barn was blown to pieces and his transformation was complete. He screams a long and horrible scream as he grabs the near dead Sazi with his long retched feet, and with a flap of  his wings knocks the rest of the destroyed barn down and flies off into the night sky.  Poor Trecie is helpless as she witnesses in terror the horrifying abducting of her beautiful and loving mother Sazi.
