I am Robert Elias Ballard from Zirconia, NC where ai cuurently reside with my wife,Jane and my son, Gary. In 2004 after retiring from Generl Electric Lighting Systems I helped complete a book of history about our community. The book was titled A History of Tuxedo and was the work of Fredrick Taylor who was a local teacher and Principal at several county schools. Fred had completed his Masters at Furman University and had written his thesis on th history of Tuxedo. The project was initiated by his loving wife and has since been published via Create Space.
As I worked with the committee I was somewhat disappointed that no personal stories were included in this book and began writing my own memories of the mill village community where I had grown up. I had no previous experience in writing but found a resource that was appealing. The resource was Hubpages where I begn to write and submit my hubs. The experience was so much fun for me and soon I had written many of my memories and shared them on this venue.
It was through a friend that I could publish in book form my writings. Using Lulu Publishing I began to learn the how to's of submitting my book and the process was relatively simple. Over the two years i self published my first book, My Tuxedo Doesn't Fit ame Anymore-Memories of a Mill Village Brat which I revised multiple times.
Over the course of time, I made several revisions and published some other books, all of which were personal interest and local stories. Using Create Space, I selfpublished all my writings into two books which are available on Amazon in print and Kindle format.
My writing style is very simple that contain a local flavor with all the intracies you might expect. Writing opened up a whole new world for me and although I never expect to gain the notoriety of best seller, there is a peronal satisfaction in writing nd recording the memories and stories associated with my life.
