Sitting with uncomfortable feelings isn’t easy, without panicking, hastily seeking distraction or blaming ourselves or others, but it is worth persevering with. There is an opportunity for greater self awareness and learning if we can allow ourselves the inner space to process emotions and consider what we can learn from an experience. It takes a lot of practice for someone with high impulsivity, but it is possible to develop this skill gradually, little by little, if we remember to keep this intention as a priority. In the beginning it can be useful as a tool to reflect on situations that have happened but if practiced regularly, it can begin to come to mind when actually in a situation. We may catch ourselves becoming mindful and aware more and more of the time.
