It’s pretty frustrating and upsetting to hear people say my husband doesn’t seem to have a life beyond his family. People assume that because he doesn’t drink beer or wine when he’s out with friends that something must be wrong with him.

No he doesn't drink alcohol; yes you can have fun without drinking any type of alcohol. A perfect example is when my dad used to be a substance abuse counselor, he always organized a party/dance for all his clients and fellow co-workers. There was no type of alcohol what so ever at the party. It really looked like a dance hall/lounge whenever my dad and his half way house threw a party. There was always a great DJ with great music and lots of dancing. To substitute alcohol, they always served club sodas and water. But in the end everyone had tones of fun without being wasted.

My husband loves to spend time with his kids & his wife...what's the problem? Every time you say my husband “doesn’t have a life” because he’s always doing something with his family, not only are you hurting my feelings but your hurting my kids feelings as well. Why say such things? Is family such a burden to be around?

No my husband doesn't want to hang out with you during Christmas and New Year’s Eve. It’s the holidays to spend time with your family...My husband has his priorities straight. He doesn’t abandon his family to go hang with friends. There’s a better time for that…after the holidays. And no my husband isn’t just going to pick himself up and go and hang with you while I’m stuck with the kids all day. Don’t tell him “leave the kids with Janeen” because if you say that I’m coming out of my house with a broom and knocking you over the head with it…

We know what it’s like to go through hardships. Being in the shelter and losing family has been our history ever since we meet 9 years ago. He knows that family and loved ones are a precious gift that you can't waist...being humble is the best trait you can have...my husband has that and so much more. His loyalty to his children and me is the best quality about him, so instead of saying he doesn’t have a life, why don’t you spend some time looking into his life…then you will see he actually does have one…and then some…
