Reflection on what faith is, at its core...

For most of my life, I have been disliking the word faith, regarding it as believing in what is not scientifically proven, or blindly believing in a person...

Today I regard faith as a state of mind, as an attitude towards life, as daring to experience the next something new... As being curious, as wanting to learn and know more, as willing to go deeper and deeper... As trying again after you failed... As recognizing that similar things are not equally bad... As the courage to begin anew...

We tend to think of faith as something rare and hard to achieve for a man... However, you do not even have to be a human being in order to have faith…

Nothing is as deep and rare as a faithful love you get from an alley cat… It happened four times in my life… You never get this if you feed the cat, since she/he will always reduce you to a means for getting his food… It is always based on blissful moments of peace, experienced as mutual rare faith when looking at and petting the cat, to be remembered by both parties forever… It is not the hopelessly dependent, symbiotic attachment you often get from a dog… Faithful moments with an alley cat are often liberating… The cat goes on in his life outside with some more confidence in himself when facing dangers, other cats or other humans… and you also go on with your life with a bit warmer heat and a bit more faith… When you both happen to meet again like this, it will deepen the experience for you both… It is as simple as that.
Faith is our deepest need – it comes before love… If you depend on a person you love, it means that you lack faith… Faithful relationships are the opposite of symbiotic relationships… It is by faith that you grow…
Spiritual paths and religions, without exceptions, were all born to somehow satisfy some of this true and essential need… Yet ignorance often turned these paths into something else which so often turned to be more harmful than helpful…
There is no short cut for growing up… There is no short cut for genuine insight… There is no short cut for mindful, liberating faith… Each of us have to earn this again almost from scratch…
When it comes to faith, all living beings are the same…
All sentient beings share the same one path from Dukkha (suffering) to Nirvana…
Suffering is the same for all… The origin of suffering is the same for all… The cessation of suffering is the same for all… The path leading for the cessation of suffering is the same for all…
May All Beings Be Happy
