Abuse has become more prevalent, addiction has become a tragedy, and lack of self-esteem is reaching profound proportions. If there is ever to be a true change in the psyche of modern consciousness we must take a step back and refocus our minds and redefine our purpose in this world.
It is imperative to me at this time of chaos and doubt in our world that we as individuals come to understand our own self-worth and become aware and responsible for our actions to the world. So much has been taken out of our realm of responsibility it seems that we are not even able to believe in ourselves anymore. Abuse has become more prevalent, addiction has become a tragedy, and lack of self-esteem is reaching profound proportions. If there is ever to be a true change in the psyche of modern consciousness we must take a step back and refocus our minds and redefine our purpose in this world.
Whether you are religious or not this teaching is necessary to open the horizon for healing from the wounds we have inflicted on ourselves through our own self-abuse. Success has become identified as monetary value and worth defined by popularity. What people are lacking is the understanding that worth and success is defined by our own ideas and our own beliefs. If we redefine what these terms mean on an individual basis we can reshape our destiny along with healing the common depression found in society today.
First, we must be aware of our ability to decide what these definitions are. Then, comes the process of determining what we will choose for our lives to be our own scale of right or wrong, our own price tag on our happiness. For instance an addict, overcoming years of self-torture and self loathing who one day finds himself clean and of right mind has by no measurable amount achieved success that few have. Or the depressed person who their whole life has walked around in a cloud of disappointment and despair who finds themselves able to smile at the fact that they have struggled and maintained through so much may find this small piece of happiness to be more valuable than all riches and gold. Or the abuser who abuses out of a lack of their own self-worth who then learns that they are equal to everybody else and sees the value of the one they have abused then changes their life. Is this not success?
Media has shaped so much of what we come to understand in this generation probably more than any other. We are told what matters and what should not, what we should care about and what we should not, or even worse who we should fear. We are independent people with differing values and purpose and one does not outweigh the other. Choose what you shall believe in, what you shall support, what is of value to you. Understand that each person has in their own right the freedom to think, feel, behave, and act the way they do. We do not need any more judging or forcing values in this world but, acceptance of all views and identities as long as it does not harm another.
I understand it takes courage and strength to stand out against the norm and say I am unique and I have a right to be! If one cannot do this for themselves then at least try not to block the path or damage one who does. We as humans need to believe in ourselves and become keepers of our self so we may shine in a world of darkness. Do not fear what another may judge you for being for it is their own ignorance and misunderstanding that does not allow them to see they too are unique, have a right to be so, and are failing in living their life as such. Stand for what you feel, help the ones who don’t, and allow life to grow. The more that we are able to do this on a personal basis the greater hope we can have of the world healing from its apathy and producing sparks of life in all corners of thinking and understanding.
SELF WORTH IS SELF DEFINED!
