The fuliginous air left her lungs

As she let out a heavy sigh

April comes and goes,

And I'm afraid so does life

Misty eyes and empty holes

Clouded the young girl's dreams

When they should be made of buttercups

Filled with golden beams

"Lollipops my dear,

is what your eyes should see.

Not towns that are on fire;

Why can't they leave us be?"

She grasped her grandpa's hand,

as dirt filled up the holes.

Her eyes were red,

Her parents dead,

And the demons clawed at her skull.

She refused to let the monsters in,

And  dared to fall asleep.

Memories of her childhood,

to precious not to keep.

"Wars are a sort of awful way,

to make your point be known,"

The bombs sounded just like thunder,

as they shook our broken home.

Goodbye, Mother,

I'll never forget your smile,

Goodbye, Father,

I know I'll see you soon,

It'll only be a little while.

Goodbye, Grandpa,

Why did you send me away?

I thought you said you loved me,

And together we would stay.

Goodbye, home,

Grandpa said it's safer this way.
