A Life Fatigued

Heavy are the shackles that smother body dragging deep
Dark shrouds that fray and weep
And keep
The embers of the mind from frolicking
Effervescent dulled — defeat

Cumbersome is the silken cloak that binds the bones and meat
Deep chains that cut and seep
And eat
The spiritedness of life force's sparkle
Now saturated — weak

Tormenting is the ghostly band that stifles sight and soul
Wraithlike tendrils taking hold
And weep
For time bereaved — half drained the life
Submerged in shadows — old

Tantalising is the glimpse of dappled light that shines within
Slips and slides with whispers thin
All deceit
As senses fade beguiled — betrayed
The cloying darkness grins
