Telling Lies Will Get You Nowhere

telling lies

Time after time

Lies flowed from your mouth

So much so

I think you started to believe them

You took me for a fool

But I played you at your own game

Feigning gullibility

Stringing you along

Until the tipping point arrived

Confronting your pretence

That pathetic and flimsy denial

You squirmed like a agitated worm

Maintaining your innocence

Even though we both knew

I smiled as I sent you packing

Waved as you departed

No room for pity

No space for sentiment

Your lies trailing behind you

I hope you have learned a valuable lesson

Telling lies will get you nowhere

I should know

I must make up another one before I head off home

My wife will be wondering where I am
