Rocks and diamonds

25/4/2017 A reflective piece about people and our surfaces and depths

I lay my hands;

on cool stone,

smooth and hard,

impassive and solid.

An ancient piece of earth,

with all its surface memories

gnawed, brushed and scoured away

by iron teeth

and whirling whirring brushes and cloths.

We polish ourselves this way,

we try to,

but what lies beneath the lies

are the truths of who we are

and what we've done

and who we've been,

and where we've come from...

and, perhaps, an insight,

a small sliver of the future...

into who we are going to become.
