The Ocean of Childhood

A rhyming poem about growing up

Swimming through hope’s

Silverlined waters

All fears melted away

Until reality caught her

Maybe some day

Filled her every thought

A wistful smile

Was carefully sought

Dreams of gold ribbons

Flitting through the air

Wrapped around her soul

A world kind and fair

Her ribbons were a shield

Letting in life and light

Impenetrable only

To dark and death’s knife

Somehow, slowly at first

The spite slithered through

Corrupting the serene

Burning with truth
