Easters Tale

-

I was walking down a busy market street

-

I saw a bearded man hidden and alone amongst the crowds bustling feets

-

Seated on the pavement with a haunted look

-

Clutching an old silvery pan in his gnarled hands

-

Wearing a dark old badly worn overcoat

-

And a beautifully brown dog as his only worldly companion

-

His sign near the kindly looking dog

 -

Simple said

-

Can you help a lonely old soul

-

Can you spare a dime for me and the dogs bowl

-

For me and my Charlie

-

For just some love and light

-

So I paused and bought him a hot drink

-

Touched his dog and took a pavement seat

-

As we conversed

-

His painful story

-

Made me think

-

He had served in many regimental engagements

-

Fought for cause and for country -

Now discharged

-

Forgotten and forlorn

-

He regretted his violence while serving in seemingly endless theatres of wars

-

His dark nightly dreams-Brought him such vivid mental memes

-

Now forgotten by society

-

He now lives on Pity Lonely Streets

-

Asking for just something

-

Something just to relieve the endless torment and emotional pain

-

A dime or a nickel

-

A warm drink or a simple kind conversation

-

Within this life

-

One can't be too fickle

-

I spoke at length then went on my way

-

The thoughts still lingered

-

He embarked on what he thought was always right

-

Inspired for freedom

-

And for it to fight

-

Now dark visceral emotions visit him nightly

-

He even now

-

Is still constantly fighting

-

I left him a gift to contend with those traumatic dark days and nights

-

A forgotten lone soul sitting with a dog named Charlie

-

On Lonely Pity Streets

-

In his badly worn overcoat

-

I wish I could do more

-

To help him embrace his emotional pain and be eventually reborn

-

But all I could do is offer him a kind helping hand

-

A means to try to rebuild and better his mortal life

-

Kind words and a ray of Light

-

An illuminating beam to help lift his spirits

-

To remind him he's not invisible -

That some really do see

-

It's why at Easter

-

Jesus gave his life

-

To save the sins of the world

-

May his sacrifice

-

Reach down and improve that mans life and more

-

I left him with a small gift along with a quiet message

-

There is always a means to change your life

-

Just let hope walk through your souls open doors

-

You and the many are never unseen

-

Angels always see your plights from the realms in the mists

-

This Easter

-

Your life could change and be improved by an angels kind gift

-

You just have to believe

-

Reconnect with the Light

-

They will help to illuminate those visceral traumatic dark nights

-

As I reflect

-

I can still see his bearded face

-

Sat lonely with his dog Charlie

-

Smiling and with the dog wrapped tightly around his arms

-

His angel in those dark days and long nights of pain

-

Both seemed filled and smiling with God's Almighty grace

Kindness has always been free

-

It shouldn't always cost a nickel or a dime

-

A kind word and compassion could be all that is needed

-

To remind those struggling

They are not alone

-

We see and feel their plights

-

A kind word could illuminate their darkness

-

Be a light not just at Easter but all year round

-

It may only seem small

-

But to the many

-

It's always been truly profound. -

Happy Easter
