Laughing Alone

The moment you realize the laughter is gone...

Laughing Alone
By Christopher Michael Carter
Another day.  Same life.  Another car ride.
She said, "You're not the funny guy you used to be."
"What do you mean?"  I asked.
"You used to be hilarious!  You used to laugh all the time!"
"Eh, that guy's gone."
"No, I just think you're holding out on me."
"Nah, he's dead.  The joke's over."
We continued the car ride in silence.
The laughter eventually stops when you're laughing alone.
