Are words a weapon

Cut deep to the bone
the pain more than flesh can stand
neurons firing endorphines rushing
emotions rising through the body
the scars of the past still hurt
a lifetime of wounds inflicted.

Tears, fears, self loathing, hatred,
jibes, taunts, recriminations, abounding
judgements made with no foundation
assumptions made without comprehension
what lies inside, they never know
the damage done will no one care.

Harm from another, harm from oneself
can time heal the wounds inflicted
The word is the weapon
its damage is deep, long lasting, devastating
the pen is mightier than the sword
its parry can wound with its word.
