Meditation 67 (The Leaf)

Life is a leaf on a tree.

Life is a leaf on a tree.

In spring it buds

a pale yellow green.

It grows to vibrant

rich verdure,

clinging, lovingly, to is parent—

the branch—

all through the summer.

The chill of autumn sets in

and the leaf turns;

the lush green fades,

and the leaf explodes

with hues of russet, brown, and gold.

Its hold upon the branch

becomes tenuous,

and it falls,

floating gently to the ground.

Winter comes.

The leaf is gone—

its ephemeral beauty

has passed on.
