/ death

Lyrical response to a swarm of personal loss.

Climbed into the shower

To scrub off the despair

Faced with raw emotion

Much more than one can bare

The acrid stench of suffering

The sadness in the air

A lifetime of learning still

Leaves no time to prepare

While life is arbitrary

Death does tend to be hard

Demise plays no favorites

Equals in its regard

Our every effort futile

No effective safeguard

Assured at the end that

We’ll go out battle scarred

A thousand miles of sorrow

If at the end there’s peace

Our lives are time we borrow

Returned in our decease

We die before those we love

Or they die before us

Unless we go together

Through means calamitous

To watch our desolation

Painful and cancerous

To live death’s depredation

And to repeat it thus

A thousand miles of sorrow

If at the end there’s peace

Our lives are time we borrow

Returned in our decease
