From shores of continent untamed

And  jungles famously penned the 'dark continent'

In vessel caught up in boisterous seas

A schooner laden with human cargo

Were heard screams of mortal dread

White fear published abroad

As a scuffle ensued and

Mortal screams punctured the dark night

And terror in high seas filled La Amistad

As savage hands unleashed 'barbarism'

In protest to shackles unwelcome

But t'was a mutiny that bore bitter victory

For many more suffered

In seas elsewhere

As tides turned

And monsoon winds picked haste

To plantations in the new world

To cotton fields of masters ruthless

Where under cross hairs of long  muzzles

And the heavy boot of  soulless master

A lifetime of forced labour awaited

Daily enforced with a cat-o-nine-tails on sun scorched back

Constant new lashes on festering wounds

Attended by perpetual groans of anguish

Are still reverberating in twenty-first century

As the former master's great grandson turned law enforcer

With impunity  gun down another great grandson

Of a former plantation slave.

O, a people entangled in a whimsical dejavu!
