Just like the Ortolan,

I sang delightful tunes.

They wanted to take me away,

But I refused to be moved.

All they saw was a piece of meat,

Some kind of food.

They ate from my soul

And tried to kill my mood.

“A wonderful delicacy”, they say.

This is until they throw me away,

Angry, hurt, ashamed …

Surely, for this, I cannot be blamed.

Unlike the Ortolan’s, my life goes on.

They tug at my soul,

But I tightly hold on.

They, like wolves, continue their tug-of-war.

Ortolan,

Dear Ortolan,

I feel your pain.

Your song in my heart will always remain.
