I have seen the way your eyes match the street lights and illuminate the dark ally ways. The only places your thoughts could speak freely to me Do you remember our hearts skipping together?

I have seen the way your eyes match the street lights

and illuminate the dark ally ways.

The only places your thoughts could speak freely to me

Do you remember our hearts skipping together?

Over every crack in the streets and our skin

The way the time passed by with less certainty and more eventuality

But our time was kept in heartbeats and breaths

So we lived lifetimes in those heated moments

Together in our loneliness but apart in our unity

Agreeing on everything but how to agree effectively

We saw the trees part with the streets

Lined with our strip-mall hearts that sold everything

From time, to eternity

From trust, to jealousy

From everything you didn't give me, to the parts of me I kept secretly

Our hearts made the city you see

And the night time was the best time to grieve the certainty

Traded for full drinks and half paid loyalties

For luscious tones and warm bodies

We wanted to be the people in the magazines

The ones who had everything

So we gave our everything and ended up with nothing

The same nothing we had left for each other

The lives we thought we fought for

Ended in a blaze of flickering streetlights and ally cat cries

Though to any outside observer this was no surprise

As far as they were concerned it was meant to die

And we knew this too but still we tried

Can you blame the flame for wanting to fizzle out

Can you see that the heart was meant to bleed?

Bleed the same color as the the almost tears you read on me

Read on my face when our lips agreed to keep

A secret we knew to be nothing less than the truth

And we knew

Even If only briefly

We knew

The hours became a daze

and we saw that our hearts kept a pace no clock could reasonably take

That's the way my love sings to you

In the lonely city streets that stay

Praying for lovers to meet in their dim lights and breathe

Like the night was a town on its own

And just for tonight it could be home

Catching each other falling for one another

And hoping beyond reason

That a rendezvous with a heart meant to break

Just may have a different fate

Even if just for today
