Sonnet penned in 2000
A fire's burning deep within my heart -
So deep I feel I cannot let it out.
It fights for air to breathe and show the part
I hide. I want to scream and shout.
A passion rides the wave of sanity
That keeps me ever grounded on the earth
'Til overwhelmed by my own vanity
Those feelings in my heart show my true worth.
There is a fire. It burns within my breast.
For what the fire burns I must not tell.
I wish my tears could put the fire out
And lift the aching burden from my chest,
For then the longed-for joy could fin'lly swell -
A sweet crescendo. Yea, a joyful shout.
