Joy? Remember JOY? We lose it somewhere along the way. But do we really, or do we simply refuse to see or acknowledge it? lmr

I am in a city full of noises, yet JOY only comes inside of these whispers.
I could assess JOY, once, in abundance, as a child, now only
                                                                                        my heart remembers.

I am seeking JOY, when I can not find it in the noise of
My thoughts, in my iPod, or inside Nina Simone's voice.
I am seeking JOY, when I can not find it in the arms that
Soothe the ache of my savaged beast. I am seeking JOY
Yet, I can not see it in the blue-gold-burgundy flaming sunset,
And there is no JOY in those denim-clad nymphettes & angels who
Numb their ache and blatantly congregate downtown.

I am seeking JOY when I can not taste it in a Rasta’s product
I am seeking JOY when I can not find it in that slim joint of light
Which keeps me animated in the scenery of traffic & neon
Empty laughter & coughing Nissans, street rogues, or
Nubile Lolitas in tube-tops & booty-shorts setting
Flames and strobes inside a papi's cartoon eyes.

Maybe JOY is a rare commodity, inherent only in our chemistry
And just maybe only fools, junkies & dreamers truly believe
They can purchase it.

Me? I’m determined to snatch a little JOY anyway, once
I can decipher its language, read it inside a kind stranger’s eyes,
Figure out its handshake, discover its natural high, & simply
Learn to roll with it.

Meanwhile, I’m pretty sure it's there, and embedded secretly
Somewhere inside that street corner symphony of
My soul.

Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure, it's there, and celebrating quietly
Somewhere inside that street corner symphony of
My soul.

Somewhere inside that street corner symphony of
My soul.
