We are brothers, we share the same flesh

We are forever bound by the straight jackets that raised us

With a promise to protect us

And at one time we believed in those lies

That the enemy couldn’t be

Somebody so close to home

That we weren’t alone, that they would

Save us from ourselves, so

We became the raw material

They were the blacksmiths

We were forged by their hate into different shapes

Like shields, bullets, wedding rings, see

They all became the same thing

A sort of protection

And though it seemed to be something we saw differently

It created a cause for unity

We were different sides of the same puzzle shaped lies

They thought could fill the holes in their chests

And make sense of the rising tides

Of the jigsaw lives they were drowning in

But it would never fit right with the memory

Of how they thought it ought to be

Because it just left holes between the edges

Empty spaces for the screams

Missing the beauty of the pieces

Because there was never any peace

So our faces became their battle scars

To show the others weaknesses

Our eyes became their setting suns

When their dreams lost their meaning

We thought ourselves the enemies

And got lost in our insanity

But here I stand today to say

I truly love my family
