The sun sets.

The lights dim.

One by one,

Stars shine from high above.

A million spotlights illuminate the stage,

Tonight is nature’s night.

Suddenly, silence.

Like the calm before the storm.

From it—without missing a beat—

A steady rhythm—a pulse—of chirping.

Towering oaks sway side to side.

Nimble willows wave slender branches,

Like ribbons in a steady breeze.

Up, down, around, the leaves dance.

The waves and shimmers of the trees,

Play a lighthearted melody.

From the banks of the river,

Bullfrogs croak a bass accompaniment.

As morning comes,

The shining stars fade,

The chirping grows distant,

The trees stand erect,

The bullfrogs fall silent,

And the curtain drops,

Yet only until…

The sun sets, and

The lights dim once more.
