I picked her brain like sand off the beach; she was glued to every nook and cranny of my being. Stuck between my fingers, she read between the lines into my heart of hearts, unbeknownst to her. On her bad days, she wore her sadness like the winter wore its cold. She owned it, wholeheartedly owned every emotion that ran out of her like rain. Her smile would desecrate me. I felt like a five year old picking up a book and asking my mom to buy just because the pictures were cool. She hooked me and threw me over board, I was destined to be the anchor that held her waves steady.

Even if that meant I was destined to drown.
