David Bowie's shocking death has affected so many of us in very strange ways, his music was there for me from my earliest memory of Space Oddity and the 1969 moon landing. But, his death, it is as if he established his own demise as the ultimate artwork...this is my tribute in song.

The day that Bowie died
I woke crying at your side
There was no call from the action man
though he had a plan
Took strangeness in his stride

The day the Wall came down
We were dying in our room
There was no call from a higher ground,
just a changing sound
That echoed with the bloom

All the roads are clear now...
No message came in from Major Tom
But a black star on the horizon
taught us everything we needed to know

Told us everything we needed to know
Everything. We needed to grow
Oh, we needed to know

The day that Bowie died
Woke crying at your side
If dust is all we'll ever be,
Then let that be an end to it
You've torn it and your pride

Was there ever really a Major Tom?
A black star, with the pressure on
Showed us everything we needed to show
Taught us everything we needed to grow
Everything. He needed to know
That we did know

The day that Bowie died
Knew everything was alright
