I will love myself as I am

A poem about the realisation that you you must love yourself as you are and not how others expect you to be.

Pushing and shoving who should I be?

From soft and gentle to assertive me

I bounce from giving openly so much

To pulling away from an unkind touch

I try to be positive, a listening ear

But your negativity yells there, then here

I give you space, you need time alone

I consider my traits and think to hone

I fit in with your ideal style, personality

But along the way I begin to lose me

I no longer smile, I lose my steps

Insecurity rushes in, forget street reps

So I trust in me, make up my mind

To stop being someone overly blind

This is me, I don’t give a damn

I will love myself as I am
