This poem is about a criminal looking out of his prison-cell window and seeing flowers which remind him of his crime committed in the open. He bloodied flowers which now "hold" him. From "Poems People Liked(1)" which is dedicated to prisoners everywhere.

Flowers

sprinkled far and wide

are delicate.

The wind unfurls

their movements;

movements cloister memories.

In prison, from my window

seeing them

is hell and heaven

married

and outside

the crying of the plants

time grieves

who bloodied them...?

the sole

repositories of my life.
