4/9/16 Two poems, one about understanding, another about trying to communicate
At times things can appear differently
when viewed from certain angles
compared to when viewed from others.
Light cannot bend over a horizon,
so it is impossible to see each other
over the curvature of the earth,
but if we each took just one step
forward, toward one another...
whole vistas would be revealed
and new understanding gained.
When I sing my joy or sadness
into the atmosphere,
my voice does not carry,
the breath from my lungs
cannot penetrate the vastness
of the world's gaseous blanket.
My emotion, however strongly sent,
gets rebounded back to me,
striking like a viper and knocking me down
and my gaze and voice turn inward.
