A semi autobiographical poem about two sisters meeting their baby brother for the first time

'Send him back mummy!' the childish voices ring with pleading

As they ignore the bundle of blue blankets in their mother's arms

Gently their mother, pushes the blankets aside

Revealing the reddened face of the baby boy

'We don't want him,' the younger girl nods enthusiastically

Agreeing with her big sister for the first time

In nearly eighteen months

She shifts uneasily, when the baby reaches out one hand

Their mother smiles uneasily

Torn between amusement

And sadness that

Her daughters feel that way

Instead of speaking, the eldest girl

Out of the room

Closely followed by her sister
