What do you do when the fight is gone?

There are times when it all seems too hard. Too damned hard. Every step is up hill on a slippery slope and every millimetre is hard-won. When you're sick of begging and bashing your head against the wall, when the blood in your eyes no longer comes from your wounds but your eyes themselves, is it ok to quit then?

What if the reason for fighting, the actual fight itself, is a loved one? And what if they won't fight for themselves? What to do then? Love and loyalty demand that the fight cannot be abandoned, but the effort and pain of reaching into yourself and begging and pleading for the other party to meet you halfway or even make a 5% effort to match your own blood, sweat and tears... how can this gap be bridged? Not alone.

My own soul screams at the wrongness of these situations, and there are a few current ones, but it will not allow me to back down. Nor can my will conquer theses challenges, so I'm left at an impasse, and there is very precious little that I tolerate less than no progression.
