My Roller Derby Queen

And she took it. She always took it. She was like that. That’s
how she was like. And she liked it, more than any woman I ever
seen liked it. Not just a girlfriend, but a Roller Derby Queen. After the
heats, there was just more heat. My Roller Derby Queen. I
remember her. We had it so good. There was not a thing in the
world we didn’t have. The world could take the rest and pile it
up, we didn’t care. Now it’s so many years ago. Where’s my
Roller Derby Queen? They say I shouldn’t call her that. What
should I call her then? She was my Roller Derby Queen. Sure
times have changed. They took the rest of the world and piled it
up. I can hear her in the rain, like back in Oregon after those
heats, outside on the tar pavement, lip to lip, skipping and
laughing before she made me a King. I can see her in the sky a
beautiful span-wing bird of love and play and sport flying into
the clouds, and coming out with another of her kind. I hope she
will transform me likewise when I go. I think that was Speedball
Tucker just now. That’s how she was like.

Like I said, for me, there was not a thing in the world we
didn’t have. The world could take the rest and pile it up, I
didn’t care. Now I care. I want to go. I want to fly with my
Roller Derby Queen.
