The presence of a dark blue Volvo in the parking lot at Kings Restaurant signaled the presence of smart guy. Henry Jones acquired the nickname early during his O level studies when the school principle once used the expression to describe him. There was only one joint from which every dating man craved to take his lady out. It was the Kings Restaurant which smart guy frequently referred to as the epicenter of the raving world and it bequeathed him the best spot for him to take Jane out on the eve of Valentine’s Day. She had called earlier on during the day to accept his offer of been his valentine. Jane was in her early thirties, tall, elegant and the kind of woman smart guy said completed the holy trinity of love which included Kings Restaurant and liquor; at least to smart guy. Smart guy was equally tall, charming but darker in complexity compared to Jane but despite her been his senior, she completed him.
The surprise of the day arrived with Jane who wanted to play masquerade ball game with him that night. Smart guy had assumed his usual position in the restaurant seeping Jack Daniel’s when she appeared at the entrance. She wore a red mask reminiscent to the faces commonly found in thriller movies. Thriller or not, she was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen and soon the game was on after taking two bottles of martini.
Masquerade ball it was and soon the mood around the restaurant changed with everyone envious about the two of them. It became masquerade ball for everyone in Kings Restaurant and chants of smart guy could be heard all over the place. The pinnacle of excitement came when truth and dare segment of masquerade ball kicked off. As a norm of the game, the moderator was chosen on basis of person who commanded largest support from the others. Smart guy as at the helm of the play and it was at this time when the unthinkable happened. He dared Jane to do the most scaring thing one can ever think of. Thriller movie chants filled the air when the challenge was passed to her.
True to her masquerade ball mask, she withdrew a red dagger from her bag advanced towards the centre of the truth and dare circle. She was met with applauses from every corner of Kings Restaurant as she seemed to give them a run of their money by doing the most scaring one can think of. She chose her accomplish from the crowd – a young woman probably in her twenties who obliged to the challenge at once. Jane pointed the dagger at her and the entire restaurant went wild with excitement. Chants were made directed to her encouraging her to go ahead with the threat. Normally, when such a dare is made a fine is payable and that makes it okay for people to make most awkward dares in this game.
She raised her dagger again and this time it landed on the chest of the young lady and all the excitement in the air died out. It was at this time when it dwelt on everyone that it was no longer funny and people began fleeing. Smart guy could not believe what he had witnessed but Jane seemed to have lived up to the challenge he put before her — doing the unthinkable.
