Babette was a Poodle dog who was a pet of her human family who loved animals, and they also loved their pet owl that lived in the back yard in a hanging pet-house that the people had built for the owl. They all lived in a little beige house with a red wooden fence around it. Babette had a litter of puppies that were two months old, and Babette would walk, and run, her pups every day in the front yard to strengthen their legs , so that when they grew older, the pups could help her chase the neighbor's cat, whose name was Slinky. Slinky, the cat, lived next door to the dog, Babette, and her family. Babette, the dog, did not like cats, so she did not like Slinky, so she would chase Slinky every time that the cat jumped over the fence to make friends. Slinky, the cat, would run and jump back over the fence into her own yard.
Every day, Babette would carry each of her pups, one by one, outside into the warm April sun, by picking each of her pups up by the back of the neck, very carefully, until they were all carried outside! Finally, Babette had taught each pup to follow her outdoors. One day after walking, and running around in their front yard, they all became tired, and went to sleep to rest there in the front yard awhile.
The pet wise owl, quietly flew from the backyard, and carefully picked up one of the sleeping pups. The wise owl took the little puppy to the tree in the front yard, and placed the puppy there on a tree branch; then the wise owl flew back to the backyard to finish his daytime sleeping.
The puppy's instincts lead him to hold onto the flat part, next to the solid bark of the tree, and the little puppy began to whine, and cry for his mama dog. The mama dog heard her pup's cry, and instantly jumped into action! Babette ran to the tree, but she could not climb the tree to save her puppy. Babette tried to climb the tree, but she quickly learned that dogs cannot climb trees! She barked fiercely, and loudly, for her pup's safety!
All of a sudden, a swiftly, running cat appeared at Babette's side! It was Slinky, the cat next door.
Slinky climbed the tree; but this time, not to get away from Babette, the dog who always chased her; but this time, it was to rescue, and to save one of Babette's puppies.
Babette got her little puppy safely back, and Babette, the dog, never chased Slinky, the cat, ever again. Babette and Slinky became good Friends!
