This one was written on the 15/1/12. It came about after watching a old movie an falling asleep watching it. I hope you all like it.

This is not a sad tale, or even a tale worth any consequence, it just a tale of eight brothers. One day the youngest brother, Max, went out to play with his friends, as he normally did on Saturdays.

But this Saturday wouldn’t be normal, because his friend Matt felt like playing a joke on his friend.

Let’s look in this house… ah yes, our young man in question is awake at last. Now remember there is nothing special about this boy… or is there?

Now, as I said, Max went to play with his friends. Max and his friends went to play in the woods by the village. Now this morning Max and his friends had the idea of playing hide ‘n’ go seek.

Max found all his other friends who were playing the game but he and his friends could not find Matt. They searched high and low. Max ran to his mother and told her what had happened.

The mother ran to the sheriff, who sent out his men to find the boy (who, unknown to all, was hiding safe at home, unaware of what was going on around him). The men searched for two more days with no sign of the boy. On the third day the sheriff came to take Max to see the judge, who asked Max what had happened. Max had told him everything. The judge sat back and decided to test his innocence. The judge told Max to return in the morning. That night Max told his brothers what had happened and what the judge had said. They all said that they would protect him.

After a sleepless night, Max got up and went to see the judge. The judge was pleased to see the boy keep his word.

“Now Max, your first test is to be tied to a chair and placed in the water for one day.”

“May I go home and see my mother, just in case I don’t make it?” said Max.

“You may, and then return back here.”

Max walked in with a sad face and said, “The judge has let me say goodbye, Mother.”

All of his brothers turned and asked what the first test was. Max told them he was to be under water for 24 hours. One of the brothers said that he would go in his place. He kissed his mother good bye and took Max’s place. Come morning the brother was released and allowed to go home. After a sleepless night, Max got up and went to see the judge.

“Now Max, your second test is you will be stretched for 24 hours.”

“May I go home and see my mother just in case I don’t make it?” Max asked.

“You may, and then return back here.”

Max once more walked home. As he entered his home, all of his brothers were waiting. Max told them that this time he was to be put on the rack. One of the brothers stood up and said that he would take Max’s place. He kissed his mother goodbye. The brother was strapped down and was stretched for 24 hours. Come morning the brother was allowed to go home. After a sleepless night, Max got up and went to see the judge.

“Now Max, for your third test you will be placed in a box no bigger than a man’s arm length and height for 24 hours,” the judge said.

“May I go home and see my mother, just in case I don’t make it?” Max asked.

“You may, and then return back here.”

One of the brothers stood up and said he would take Max’s place. He kissed his mother goodbye. The brother stepped into the box, and before the lid was closed he asked for a book to read but was told no. The lid was closed for 24 hours. Come morning the brother was allowed to go home. After yet another sleepless night Max got up and went to see the judge.

“Now Max, for your fourth test you will be hung upside down by your feet for 24 hours,” the judge said.

“May I go home and see my mother, just in case I don’t make it?” Max asked.

“You may, and then return back here.”

The brother stepped up to the tree; while the brother was hanging there he closed his eyes and went to sleep. Come morning the brother was allowed to go home. After yet another sleepless night Max got up and went to see the judge.

“Now Max, for your fifth test you will be placed in a hot box for 24 hours,” the judge said.

“May I go home and see my mother, just in case I don’t make it?” Max asked.

“You may, and then return back here.”

The brother stepped into the box, before the lid was closed the brother told them to keep it hot, then the lid was closed for 24 hours. Come morning the brother was allowed to go home. After yet another sleepless night, Max got up and went to see the judge.

“Now Max, for your sixth test you will have to hold up a heavy statue for 24 hours,” the judge said.

“May I go home and see my mother, just in case I don’t make it?” Max asked.

“You may, and then return back here.”

Max once more walked home. As he entered his home, all of his brothers were waiting. Max told them that he had to hold up a heavy statue for 24 hours. One of the brothers stood up and said he would take Max’s place. He kissed his mother goodbye. The brother picked up the heavy statue; he made it look like it weighed nothing. Come morning the brother was allowed to go home. After yet another sleepless night, Max got up and went to see the judge.

“Now Max, for your seventh test you will have to hold the sea for 24 hours.” The judge said.

“May I go home and see my mother, just in case I don’t make it?” Max asked.

“You may, and then return back here.”

Max once more walked home. As he entered his home, all of his brothers were waiting. Max told them that he has to hold up the sea for 24 hours. One of the brothers stood up and said he would take Max’s place. He kissed his mother goodbye. The brother took up his place, and with one breath he sucked up the sea. In the morning he let the sea go and went home. After yet another sleepless night, Max got up and went to see the judge.

Max stood in front of the judge and watched the judge looking over a pile of papers in front of him. He looked at Max and said, “Right, you have passed all the tests that have been set before you. But the missing child is still missing.”

Just as the judge had finished speaking, the door flew open and Matt rushed in.

“Please don’t punish my friend, it was my fault, I was playing a joke!” Matt yelled as he entered the courtroom. The judge looked down at Matt with a stern look.

“So, you’re the missing child?”

“Yes sir.” Matt said, his head hung with shame.

The judge had let Max go with his apologies. Now Matt had to go and apologize to Max’s mother and do any jobs that she was unable to get done due to the week of tests.
