A Modern Fairy Tale Romance (Chapter 10: The First Challenger)
I’m on the front line
Don’t worry I’ll be fine
the story is just beginning
I say goodbye to my weakness
so long to the regret
and now I see the world through diamond eyes
Diamond Eyes, Shinedown
Three months have passed by peacefully since the day the Prince of Excalibell and his ever-so-unpredictable Butler had stumbled into my life.
It’d almost felt like a dream; a good looking Prince Charming from an Enchanted World came into my world — except that it was real and it hadn’t been a swept-me-off-my-feet kind of situation. At all.
There’d been blackmailed with magic, deceived, and even kidnapping involved.
To sum things up until two months ago, I’d accidentally entered Prince Duke’s world via his Engagement ring to Marian... Don’t ask. I don’t even want to know how the hell did I managed to fit into a bloody ring in the first place!
It had to be probably one of the worse days of my life. I’d been teleported to an enchanted planet, accused to be a bloody witch and, on top of that, being chased around by a mob of guards with my horribly and painful blistered feet!
Honestly, I’m still surprised how I’d managed to survive all those ordeals without losing an ounce of my sanity.
It was horrible, Diary. Had Aidan not come in time to rescue me, I’d probably be dead right now. *shivered*
Speaking of which, I know it’s common courtesy for a gentleman to be chivalry and all. But if I’m being completely honest here, Aidan has been really... nice to me.
Kind. He had been surprisingly kind to me — which freaked me out. Huh.
Anyhow, putting that thought aside, at least something great had happened while I’d been kidnapped — my two best friends in the whole wide world are finally ENGAGED!!! Can’t you believe it? I’d almost passed out when I heard the news (lol)!
Now that the news of their engagement had gone out and into the world, my job is to keep away Emma’s heartbroken admirers from interfering. I have no problems at all dealing with them. Most of the guys were already admitted defeat anyway. But the ones who kept on pursuing her, were the persistent ones and sore losers.
I, on other hand, have no complains whatsoever. It’s a great workout to release all the stress from studying and work after all.
Lately however, I’d this feeling that someone was stalking me. It’d started when I was cleaning table ‘2’ that was nearby the window the other night after the closing hours. I saw a figure standing across the road, waving at me. I didn’t get to see the face clearly though, but I’d assumed it was a man.
Freaked out, I’d immediately called Josh and told him about it. He arrived five minutes later and offered to escort us back home. He said he was around the neighbourhood when I’d made that call.
It’d happened a few times, and each time, I would either called or texted Josh to come and escort us home whenever he could. If he couldn’t come, he would send someone over to escort us home safely anyway. Funny thing was, whenever Josh or any of his men appeared, the feeling stopped.
Mum had no idea why Josh kept on insisting to escort us as I’d told him not to say a word to her about this. I know she should be warned about this, but I don’t want her to worry. Not when she already has so much things on her plate to be worried about.
Josh had said he would have someone to make a round around that area for security purposes.
I admitted, not having the Excalibellian Prince and his butler and I in my life is a bit troublesome — especially when it was useful to use magic at the times like this,, but, I’d survived well without them before, and therefore, I shall again.
Anyhow, that’s all for now, Diary. See you again!
“THANK you so much for your help!” A dashing and athletic young man in mid-twenties, with messy dirty blonde hair and a pair of deep emerald eyes, thanked two law enforcement officers.
The man looked like one of those young A-Star movie stars. He definitely got the looks, athletic body, and charms that made women swoon and straight men jealous.
He held on to his mobile phone tightly in his hands.
“You should be more careful. Lately, there are lots of snatch- theft activities around this area. You were lucky we’d happened to pass by when it happened.” Josh Campbell said, rolling his left arm that made a cracking sound. He had both sleeves rolled up to his elbows.
It’d been a while since he had thrown someone over the shoulder. The last person he’d remembered throwing had been his own niece. it had been a demonstration, in which she had persistently insisted that he taught her how to shoulder throw someone twice bigger the size than her. Josh had been reluctant, how could he possible threw his cute fierce niece like he would threw someone over the shoulder in a fight?
That all ended when his so called cute niece had called him by the one name that was forbidden to mention in his presence at all times. It was a nickname — a horrible nickname created by his ex-crazy lover.
Turning to look at his partner who was still pining the snatch thief on the ground, Josh sighed.
The younger man nodded. He knew it was his own fault for not paying attention to where he was going that he was enable to sense someone suspicious was lurking in the dark corridor.
“I understand. I’ll be more careful next time. I was actually on my way to the Hillview Shield Academy. We are preparing a stage play that’s coming up pretty soon, so we’ve been practising for it every evening. But not too late, I assure you!”
“Huh. I assume you’re the main lead?”
The man chuckled. “Oh no, Sir. I’m actually the scriptwriter and producer of the play, ‘The Wishing Princess’. It’s part of my thesis. Ethan Carter, by the way.” He said, offering a handshake.
At the introduction, Josh lifted his eyebrows high on his forehead. Slowly, a smirk graced upon his lips.
Weeeell, this is a surprise. So this is the famous Ethan Carter that makes her gaga about. Ought to say; her taste in men isn’t all bad as I’d expected.
Josh accepted the offer and shook his hand.
“A Play Scriptwriter, at your age? That’s impressive.” Josh whistled.
Ethan chuckled again. “I’m still a student, a third and final year for me, but I’ve written many plays for the school before. Though, this is actually my first time as an amateur scriptwriter writing for a play that is going to be opened for the locals. My Lecturers have pursued me to try it out, to see if I can take up the challenge.”
Josh nodded repetitively. “You have a big dream. With that look and charm, you might want to reconsider that dream and trade for modelling or acting instead.” He joked.
Ethan chuckled along, shaking his head. “Not really. People have told me many times, but I’m not interested in the big picture. I’m more of behind-the-scene guy, you know?”
Josh was again impressed by the young man’s strong ambition but said nothing. He wanted so much to ask him about what he thought of Anya just so he could rub in her face later with ‘I-know-something-that-you-don’t’ song that irritated her to no end.
Ah hell! Why not?
“Say, this is just a wild guess; but by any chance, are you a member of the Literature Club of the Shield Academy?” Josh raised an eyebrow.
Ethan looked rather surprised at the question before nodding his head. “Actually, I am the President of the Club.”
“Ah, then you must have known my niece, Anya Romans! She’s a member of the club.”
“Anya? Anya Romans is your niece? But you’re...”
Josh fanned one hand in the air.
“Long story short; we’re not blood related, but I am legally her uncle — young uncle, by the way.” Josh smirked.
“Ah. Is that so? Nice meeting with you then, Anya’s uncle.”
“Josh. By the way, how is she in school? I hope she doesn’t causes any troubles for the Literary Club President—” Josh’s words were being cut by his partner calling him from the car.
“Emergency call from Greenwood Streets. Hey, isn’t that where your cute ‘girlfriend’ lives?”
Josh’s eyes grew. Reaching out for his mobile phone in his pocket, he speed dialled a number and was waited for the recipient to answer. It didn’t take him long to wait as he immediately greeted by the sound of Rosy’s wailing voice.
“Ros, what— Okay. Just... Try to calm down. I’ll be right there as soon as possible. Bye.”
He glance at Ethan. “I’ll see you again, Mr. Carter.”
Josh quickly rushed to his car. His partner had successfully pushed the thief into the back seat of the Police’s car.
“What’s wrong?” asked Gall, the moment his Sergeant got in.
“Anya has gone missing.”
“What! But how?”
“Drive. Rosy said someone had broke into her room and kidnapped her. Her window was all scattered.”
“But she lives in the freakin’ the twentieth floor! How the hell—”
“Just drive, Sergeant!”
Josh kept on tabbing his finger impatiently on the window’s screen while the car moved. As the police siren echoed, Josh complement what Rosy had just told him:
“Someone had broken into my little girl’s room and kidnapped my baby! Please Josh, find her!”
“Damn.” Josh hissed through his gritted teeth.
What his partner had said just a while ago was true; how is it possible for someone to climb all the way to the twentieth floor and kidnapped someone? Ross had also mentioned that Anya’s bedroom window was broken with a big hole at the centre.
Josh had a strange bad feeling about this. It was the same feeling he had of that very blurry dream. It felt real, like a piece of a missing memory — of how he had arrested someone whose attire looked like from the Medieval Era who’d accidentally shown up in Anya’s walk-in closet.
IN an abandoned oil factory far away from the city, was where Anya Romans was slowly waking up from unconsciousness. Anya groaned as she got up — or at least tried to. Eyes widened, the first thing Anya realised, her arms literally glued on the wall by a thick white substance above her head. Not only that, she was also wrapped from her waist, down to her toes by layers of snake scales.
Next, Anya noticed most of the rooftop of the building were gone, hence, allowing the moon’s ray to highlight the part of the room that she was in.
“W-What hell is this?!”
“Ah, so you’ve awakened.” A male voice spoke with hissing tone.
A pair of golden slit eyes glowed in the dark. Anya bit the scream that threatened to come out from her mouth. She let out a sharp gasp when the kidnapper’s identity was finally revealed: it had a hair of living snakes, humanised form from head to the waist, while the rest was covered by impenetrable scales, sharp brazen claws, and deadly fangs.
Gorgon. A Greek Mythology.
Anya had read about them before while doing her research on Mystical Creatures for one of her assignments. Though Gorgons were usually depicted as females, there was one known male gorgon, Nanas, that had said to be the guardian of the Lord of the Sky, and known as Rain God to some.
Anya quickly shut her eyes tight as the creature came closer to her. She remembered of the legendary tales of Medusa; whoever gazed into her eyes will be turned into a stone. She shivered and felt the chills when a rough scaled hand stroke her cheek, low chuckling hissed came from the creature.
“Relax, child. Unlike the rest of the Gorgons, I am considered as ssspecial. You do not need to fret. You won’t be turned to stone by looking at me unless I cast a spell on you. Now open your eyes and look at me!”
At his commend, Anya slowly opening her eyes.
Nanas the male Gorgon, looked like very much like it’s legendary female counterpart, including a pair of golden wings on its back.
“There, that’s more like it.” Nanas smirked amusingly.
Anya cringed slightly when she felt the thick scales around her waist tightened.
“I-I assume your name is... Nanas?”
The Gorgon roared in laughter. “What an intelligent mortal you are! Not many people knew my name, let alone my existence.”
“I-I love reading books about your... kind. ‘Legends and Mythologies’, as we called it. Though, no one expects you to be... Well, real!"
Nanas chuckled, deeply. “Myths, my dear? Now that is an understatement. I am real, as you can very well see. In the land of Excalibell, everything that you mortals deemed to think as non-existence, are in fact, real.”
“Even unicorns?” Maybe if I can get him to talk more, he would loosen up the grip and then, I can escape!
“Even unicorns!” Nanas chuckled loudly this time. His tightened his grip around her waist.
...Or maybe not. Damn. What’s taking Aidan so long? Anya groaned when she tried to move her numbed arms. The more she moved the harder the grip on her waist.
Nanas, noticed her discomfort, hissed amusingly.
“Feeling uncomfortable, dear? No worries. Once he gets here, I shall release you.”
“And just who is this ‘he’ you’re referring about? Why kidnapped me in the first place?”
“I’m glad you asked, dearie. While waiting for our dear guest to arrive, let me entertain you with a little story.” Nanas grinned.
His grip on her loosened up a little bit.
“To begin with, I’ve been... you could say, studying you for quite some time now.”
Anya snorted. ”Stalking me, you mean.”
“As I’ve said before, I’ve been watching you ever since the arrival of the Excalibell Prince to this world.”
At the mentioned of Duke, Anya’s eyes hardened, but she said nothing.
Nanas proceeded. “Oh, no worries. It’s not the Prince that I’m want. In fact, what I desire most is the person close to him — the Gran Mago.”
I knew it. “Why are you after the Gran Mago?” Anya asked anyway.
“My title, of course.” A new voice answered, someone they’d been waiting for had finally arrived.
“Speak of the Devil, and here he comes.” Nanas turned his head to face with the new comer.
There he was, standing at the entrance with a full butler suit and the same cunningly polite smile he bore, always.
“I hope I’m not late for the party? I apologise for the wait, Miss Romans. Unfortunately, I had an errand that needed to be done for the His Highness the Prince before I could come here to your rescue.” The Butler slightly lowered his head, apologetically.
“You’re not hurt, are you?”
“I could scarcely breathe earlier, thank you very much.”
“Ah, but you can now, yes? Meaning that no harm has done to you. Yet."
“Damn butler.” Anya muttered under her breath, at his amuse tone.
Aidan smirked a bit, before he focused on the Gorgon.
“At long last! The moment I’ve been waiting for has finally arrived! Fourteen years, and the Gran Mago title shall be mine at last!” Nanas exclaimed excitingly.
“Fourteen...Years?” Anya raised an eyebrow.
Aidan sighed and massaged his throbbing forehead. “It’s highly amusing that one would wait exactly fourteen years later to challenge me again after losing just one fight.”
Anya was having a hard time trying to stifle a giggle.
“What’s so funny?” Nanas asked irritatingly.
“You.” Anya snorted. ” I mean, why do you wait, like, fourteen years to challenge him back? Is he really that mighty and powerful? And how does kidnapping me has anything to do with earning the tittle and defeating the Gran Mago anyway?”
“I’m glad you asked, Miss Romans. This Gorgon thought that by using you as a bait, he has a higher chance on defeating me. He thought he could use you as my weakness."
“HAH!” This time Anya didn’t bother to stifle her laughter. “Are you serious? Have you really been studying me?”
“Can somebody please enlightened me of what is so entertaining?” Nanas finally snapped when Anya wouldn’t stop laughing.
“You, dumbarse!” Anya sighed, after she regained back her breath. “Honestly. I admit I left scared by you earlier that I’d almost peed in my pants. Knowing how dumb you really are now makes me feel stupid for being scared in the first place!”
“How DARE you filthy human scum! Insulting me like that!” Nanas tightened his grip on her, causing the mortal woman to gasp. “I’ll break every bones in you—”
“Not so fast, Gorgon.” Came a rather familiar voice, followed by a cloud of black smoke. When the smoke dispersed, standing between the Gorgon and the butler, was someone whom Anya had not seen for quite some time.
“Zenon!” Nanas hissed.
Dressed in his usual outfit with a walking stick, Zenon stared at Anya and grinned widely. “My, my.. What have you gotten yourself into this time, sugar?”
Noticed how the mortal woman wasn’t responsive to his question, and how she was having difficulties breathing from the lack of air, Zenon’s grin faded. He approached the Gorgon, tapping his walking stick against the cold hard ground.
“Let’s cut to the chase, shall we?”
In a light speed movement, Zenon appeared, floating in the air near Anya was. He cut the layers of snake scales using a hidden blade inside the walking stick that was acting as a scabbard. An ear-splitting painful scream echoed throughout the factory.
Aidan caught Anya in mid-air while she fell before he teleport them to a safer distance.
“Are you alright, Miss Anya?”
Anya slowly nodded. Looking back at the Demon Prince, she silently thanked him.
Meanwhile, Nanas had tears running down his cheeks. He hissed angrily at Zenon, who only raised an eyebrow.
“You piece of rotten Prince! How dare you cut me down like that!”
The Demon Prince smiled wickedly. “Oh, why shouldn’t I teach my stubborn underling a lesson? Said underling who does not know where he belongs.”
“Underling?” Anya whispered. Still in Aidan’s arms, holding her in a bridal style.
“Yes. The Gorgons, are the low-rank army in the Demon’s hierarchy. There has been a rumour lately, because of their rank and the way they’ve been treated by the others, the Gorgons are currently rebelling Demon King. From what my sources have told me, the Gorgons believed that if one of them is strong enough to gain the Gran Mago title, then one must be powerful enough to overthrow the Demon King.”
“I see... So defeating you is not necessarily means that they want to rule Excalibell. Sometimes it’s personal.”
Anya nodded. Subconsciously, she lent her head against his chest as she watched the battle between Nanas and Zenon.
“Lava Beast!” Nanas summoned a flame beast, which Zenon effortlessly dispelled it with a swing of his blade.
“What a distasteful name for such a weak attack.” Raising one hand in the air, Zenon released a massive power-charging force toward the Gorgon.
It pieced mercilessly through Nanas’s stomach－ created a medium size black void. Before long, the Gorgon’s whole being got sucked into a void, and he ultimately vanished. Leaving no traces of him behind.
Zenon ended the battle by blowing the few strings of his wild punk-rock hair. He had taken off the hat he wore earlier and made a courtesy bow to the vanished opponent.
Time seemed to have stopped the moment the battle ended.
Anya, whose eyes had glued to the battle, finally let out the breath she had been holding. She had unconsciously buried her head against his chest and grip a fistful of his clothes when Nanas got sucked into the void.
AIDAN did not like to be held up close and personal like this. While he was well aware the mortal woman must have been frightened to see how the battle ended (this was her first time witnessing a true battle after all), that did not give her any rights to cling on him like he was some kind of a doll all.
Yet, despite his inner monologues of wanting to push the young woman away, Aidan couldn’t understand himself why he was still holding onto her in his arms.
Dark chocolate eyes stared down at the woman in his arms, who was still shivering when the sound of footsteps caught his sense of hearing.
“Well, well, well...” Zenon said lightly, brushing some dirt and dust from his expensive and tailored suits. “That ended quickly.”
He looked up, smiling widely at Anya and said, “Hello again, love. Been a while, hasn’t it?”
Anya swallowed the gulp in her throat. “What was that? Just now...”
“That sugar, was a high-level Dark Magic that only few magicians, such as myself, are capable of doing it. ’Course, Duke’s loyal dog here is able to master it too. Ain’t that, right, big guy?”
Zenon repetitively tapped the butler’s shoulders.
Anya suddenly felt herself being lowered, until her feet touched the ground. Looking up, she gasped softly at the burning, almost hatred look in the butler’s eyes.
Anya was about to say something when she felt her hand being lifted in the air and cold lips touched the back of her left hand.
“Please accept my deepest apologise on behalf of my former underling’s idiotic behaviour, love. I have no idea those lowly and idiotic Gorgons would go as far as kidnapping someone who has a connection with the useless Excalibell’s Prince, all for the sake of the Gran Mago title.” Zenon shook his head. “Honestly. How troublesome.”
Anya removed her hands from his grip and sneered. “The reason why Nanas and the other Gorgons are acting this way is because you haven’t been treating them fairly!”
Zenon raised an eyebrow. “Now why would we do that?”
“What do you mean why?” Anya snapped. “As the future ruler, shouldn’t you be thinking and doing what’s best for your people? That includes your subordinates as well!”
“Why, of course. However love, the Gorgons knew what they were getting when they started the rebellion against my father. True, they were being mistreated, but that’s how things work in our world. Call it ‘survival of the fitness’, if you will. The strong shall wins while the weak loses. If one wants to survive, then one must strives to be the strongest amongst us all.”
“That’s—!” A strong hand suddenly clamped on Anya’s mouth, silence her from talking any further.
“Your Highness. Despite what happened earlier on, thank you for still keeping your promise.” Aidan lowered his head in a bow.
“My pleasure. Though; I have to say, I should be the one thanking you.” Zenon smirked.
Aidan’s jaws tense at his words but he kept quiet.
Anya pulled his hand away from her mouth.
“Why did you come here for, Zenon? Don’t tell me you came all the way here to rescue me either. I won’t buy that crap.”
Zenon flashed her a wide grin. “You know I would never allow anyone else to touch you, dearie. You are my precious property after all!”
“Excuse me?” Anya shrieked angrily. She bravely took a step forward, until she came face-to-face with the Demon Prince.
“Listen, buddy. I’m grateful that you’d showed up when you did. But that doesn’t make me anything less than your damn property!”
Zenon continuously grinned.
Huffed, she turned around with her back faced him and returned to Aidan’s side.
“What? I’m not stupid enough to challenge a Demon Prince to a real fight.” Anya shrugged, when the butler gave her a stare.
THE time was one o’clock in the morning by the time Aidan had teleported them back to the Hillvieview Town.
“So you’re telling me you’ve erased all traces and evidences that happened earlier tonight?”
Aidan mutely nodded. He had been strangely quiet they left the factory. He had briefly informed her about his little ‘missions’ before coming to her rescue. Under Duke’s order, Aidan had used magic to erase any evidences that she’d been kidnapped and the chaos that soon followed in the first place.
Anya hadn’t been too happy to hear about it of course. However, after taking a few consideration, she figured it wasn’t such a bad idea after all. She had enough drama to handle for one night. Though, she wished they would kindly stopped brainwashing her family with spells, damn it!
Sighing tiredly, Anya was just about to step into the small steps into the Star apartment, she stopped at the coughing sound came from the man behind her.
“Aidan? Hey... You’re okay?” Anya asked, worriedly.
The level-headed Butler lifted one gloved hand in the air, stopping her from moving toward him. He was slouching a bit, with his back against the walls. His other gloved hand went over to his chest; slowly rubbing it with his fingers through the white shirt.
“I’m fine, Miss Anya.” Aidan said, breathing heavily.
“Hurry on now.” He tilted his head toward the front doors of the apartment, signalled for her to continue moving forward.
Anya scowled. She felt really sceptical about him being all right, but didn’t want to argue and decided to let it slide. If he said he was fine, then it wasn’t nothing to be worried about—
Her thoughts were interrupted when the sound of his coughs increased heavily. Turning her head around swiftly, Anya gasped at the sight of Aidan coughing so badly with his hands covered his mouth, and his forehead nearly touched the ground. He was trying very hard to control his breathing and reduced the noise of the cough.
“Oh hell, as if you’re ‘all right’! Aidan!”
In seconds she was right beside him. Rubbing his back as gently as she could. Never before had she seen him acting this way. His face was paled. He looked like he was about to pass out.
“Aidan?” Anya snapped her fingers at him. “Can you hear me? Nod if you can.”
The Butler could barely hear anything around him. Even her voice when he’d called his name seemed so distance.
He nodded anyway.
“Aidan, I need to know. Did you or did you not use any Offensive or Defensive Magic before you’d come to my rescue? Duke had warned me something like this were going to happen should you used magic excessively and continuously without getting enough rest to recharge.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about, Miss—”
“Oh, cut the bloody crap, will ya! Did you or did you not use any Offensive or Defensive Magic?!”
Aidan stared at her with a disbelief look on his face. His coughing fit had reduced, for now. His throat however, suffered the most and his head was spinning. His vision was getting blurred by seconds.
Aidan knew he needed to fight this. He was placing the both of them at risk for being in this state in an opened field where his enemies might be lurking.
“Hey,” the sound of finger snapping at him again, shook him out of the trance.
“Hey Butler-boy, answer me! Aidan!”
How many times had she called his name today? And why did it sounded so endearing every time she called his name? Before Aidan could figured out the many whys to his questions, his world blacked out.
The last thing Aidan felt before he blacked out was Anya gripping on his collar and shaking him like a rag doll, before she cursed his name.
“LISTEN, Aidan. A gifted Magician and the Gran Mago, who will soon becoming His Highness’s Butler, you must never let your gift to be waste so recklessly. Never let any distraction get in your way — especially in the matter of the heart. Understood?” An elderly man, in a worn out robe, sitting on a rocking chair beside the blazing fire place had once spoken those words to a younger thirteen year old Aidan.
“Very good. I’m very proud of you, child.” The Elder smiled at him, gently tapping his head.
The scene changed immediately, showing to the same Elder raising his hand and hit on the young adult version of Aidan, about the age of eighteen.
“You fool! Didn’t I tell you before not to be distracted in the matter of the hearts?!” Yelled the Elder. “Because of your foolishness, His Highness’s safety was being put into jeopardy!”
The younger Aidan had been sitting with both knees buried on the ground. There had been a small red bruise on his left cheek where the Elder had hit him earlier. His head remained lowered while his hands on the edge of his knees. His white shirt was tainted with smeared of blood, where fresh wounds were evidently around his neck.
“Forgive my sin, Elder. It won’t happened again.”
“It’d better not! Listen to me, Aidan. Feelings and emotions are two most powerful tools that no Offensive or Defensive magic could counter. They can either make you or break you. As magicians, it is a MUST that we control our emotions carefully so that the magic that we possessed do not control us. As the current Gran Mago, you must have absolutely self-control of your emotions and feelings. Seal them and kept them far away from the surface from now on. You’ve already learned your lesson on how the matter of the heart could affect your ability as a Gran Mago and made you lose your concentrations. Do not repeat the same mistake ever again. Is that understood?”
Aidan woke up instantly from the dream and found himself sat up on a comfortable Queen size bed in a small bedroom, with a small dagger on his left hand that he had subconsciously summoned. After a moment, he took a long deep breath when his vision cleared, and he knew he was not in any immediate danger.
Aidan felt something cold attached on his forehead; a soaked cloth, and lifted an eyebrow. Putting the cloak on the small water bowl on the table beside the bed, he looked at the mini clock that was on the table — five o’clock in the morning.
Judging by the room that he was in, Aidan knew he had been brought by the young lady herself late in the morning.
How she managed to carry him all the way to the twentieth floor all by herself, he had no idea. But Aidan had learned the hard way never to underestimate her strengths; the lady may be small in size and everything else that mattered, but she sure could kick hard like a Kickboxing Champion.
Aidan had witnessed some of her fights with the school bullies without her knowledge, and had even had the opportunity to tease her ability when she had asked him for a spar.
Speaking of which...
Dark chocolate eyes dwell immediately on a figure bundled up with thick blanket, with a kitten curled up next to her legs. She slept soundly on the layers of mattress on floor.
Silently, Aidan removed himself from the bed and landed next to her. He watched her breathing softly while she asleep.
Aidan remained in that position for quite some time before he picked her up from the floor, as gently as possible as not to wake her, and laid her to the bed. Casey the kitten, jumped up the bed as soon as it felt the missing absent of her Mistress on the floor. She resumed sleeping on the same spot near her Mistress.
Once his job was done, Aidan sighed softly before turning around and summoned a magic portal.
His eyes never left her when he entered the portal, and when it disappeared.
